Situada al sur de Croacia, puerto marítimo de la costa dálmata, al que llega nuestra seguidora en su viaje por Croacia.
Es un importante puerto pesquero y base naval del Adriático, así como un centro cultural y turístico importante; la ciudad antigua es una joya arquitectónica, declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1979. En su entorno existen astilleros, fábricas de cemento y de plástico, industrias madereras, vinicultoras e industrias de procesamiento de alimentos. Cerca de la ciudad nació el emperador romano Diocleciano, que venía a descansar por temporadas a Split.
Desde aquí se puede por ejemplo hacer una visita en ferry a una de las muchas islas de Croacia; un viaje muy atractivo si se dispone de tiempo. Si el turista prefiere quedarse en la ciudad, descubrirá una buena cantidad de elementos arquitectónicos como palacios e iglesias, por lo que es recomendable quedarse unos días.

¿Alguien podría informarme sobre la situación del mar en este puerto el día 14 de septiembre de 2012? Al parecer permaneció cerrado y no permitía atracar barcos. Me gustaría saber si es pasó algo o me han proporcionado una información falsa .
